Letter, 15 August 1862, near Culpepper C.H., Virginia [to] his father.

Written in 1862 to his father. In it, Union General King relates about the poor conditions which he and his troops had to endure. He also wrote of his impending march the next day toward the Rapidan River in Virginia.

King commanded Wisconsin's "Iron Brigade" during the Civil War. In 1863 he accepted appointment as the U.S. Minister to Rome.
